The morning started out with a two hour oversleep but a buddy and I were determined to go attempt to catch a trout worthy of placing in the CCA Star bank division for Louisiana. We showed up to Rockefeller WMA around 9:00 am. There was plenty of bait busting around the flood gate that included Shrimp, shad, croaker as well as glass minnows. We started by throwing DSL blue moon and twisted tea on 1/8 oz z-man jig heads and caught a few 13-16 in **** trout. At this point we decided to cast new some shrimp and one cast was all it took to fill the live well full of shrimp and croaker. Threw croaker out near the gate under a 3in four horseman popping cork with approximately 2-3 foot 15 lb seagaur fluoro and a size 10 treble hook. We instantly started catching better grade fish with the trout going 16-22 inches and reds ranging from 17-28. My buddy caught a 22 going for 4.1 lbs that he later weighed in for the bank division. The bite began to slow down around 2:30 as the tide was going slack. We caught many more fish than pictured but only kept what we knew we'd eat. People all around us were catching what seemed like hundreds of massive blue crab. If you're ever around Cameron or Grand Cheniere, LA I'd definitely give Rockefeller WMA a stop. I fished it for 4 days straight and was constantly on fish as long as the water was moving. Tight lines guys! 🎣
