So, I grew up fishing mostly fresh water with a little salt water mixed in from time to time. You'll see by the pics attached that i can find the fish, just never the ones we're looking for. We fish Trinity bay, East bay, West bay and can go to Sabine.  Short of hiring a guide, I'm looking for advice mostly and some locations you'd be willing to share where I can take the wife and kids to catch some keeper trout and reds. (I personally don't care to keep them but she would). I have a 24' bay boat with trolling motor so I can't get too shallow but anchoring and wading isn't out of the question. I'm real big on live shrimp on a popping cork as I'm teaching the wife to fish. She'd never done it before she met me. I'm still learning plastics myself so we're doing that together.

If this wind will ever lay just do a little well hoping out in Trinity bay. Popping cork and live shrimp usually produce out there this time of year. Be on the look out for sweet smelling slicks, birds working and schools of redfish while you're doing the well hoping too.
